Could MSU Land 18 & 19 OH Brothers & Defensive Standouts?
As the #16 Michigan State Spartans prepare for their December 28 Holiday Bowl matchup with the #18 Washington State Cougars, they also are working hard on recruiting. But not just for the 2018 class that has an early signing day period on December 20, but ahead as well.
One of the top defensive recruits in the state of Ohio for 2019 is Eli Myers.
The physically gifted and athletic young man is an elite player. Eli said of the process, “I have visited Arizona, Zone, Cincinnati, OSU and Michigan State as well.”
He even camped at Michigan State this summer and I asked him if the Spartans are still on the hunt for him as a player. He said, “For sure, for sure. Yesterday Coach Mike Tressel came in and talked with me and my head coach.”
The 6’3” 220# player ended his junior campaign on the Ohio 3rd team All-State squad. He told me of the postseason honor that, “I am not satisfied, but definitely happy with what I got. I really like Ohio State, Arizona State, and Arizona as well as Michigan State.”
He told me that Michigan State Co-DC Mike Tressel said, “He was wondering about my brother and his situation. Do I want to play where my brother wants to go and if I want to play with him? Which I do. I look up to my brother and he pushed me to work as hard as I do. I am proud of all that he has accomplished.”
Spartan Nation has previewed the Myer’s brothers’ previously. His older brother is Abe. Abe is a senior this season and highly recruited himself. While his season was cut short by injury, it is nothing that will impact him long term. Abe told Spartan Nation of the injury-shortened season, “I tried to make the most of every play I could. I am a committed as a preferred walk-on at Ohio State. That is what I am thinking and still considering all of my offers. I have offers from Air Force, Kent State, and Ohio University. It is a tough decision, I have always wanted to play at the highest level. With the opportunity that I have now, right now, Ohio State is my best chance.”
As far as playing with his little brother Eli, I asked if that is something that he would like. “Yes sir, I know it. I would love to stick with him as long as I can. Our relationship is something that you can’t describe. We have always had it. I love playing football with him and working with him.”
